14 Henrietta Street is delighted to present not one, not two, but three publications which expand on, and uncover the lives of the people who lived at 14 Henrietta Streets and the surrounding areas.
Each of the three publications focuses on a significant chapter in the history and evolution of the house; from its grand Georgian beginnings, through its decline into a tenement house, to the last of its residents and their move to suburbia. They are an extension of the engagement work that runs through the museum.

Using the story of one house and street, the book investigates the nature and origins of Dublin’s housing crisis in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In the decades that followed independence, Dublin expanded rapidly as new suburban developments attempted to eradicate the tenement landscape. From streets like Henrietta Street, families moved to places like Crumlin, Cabra, Whitehall and later Ballyfermot. Brendan Behan quipped there was ‘no such thing as suburbia, only Siberia’, but others made happy homes there.
14 Henrietta Street: From Tenement to Suburbia tells the story of the last residents of Dublin’s tenements and their move to a new life in the Suburbs and includes the recollections of some of those who made that journey.

MUSEUM by Dragana Jurišić and Paula Meehan - €18.00
Renowned Irish poet, Paula Meehan and award-winning photographer, Dragana Jurišić join forces to create a book celebrating the varied history of, and the lives lived in, 14 Henrietta Street. The result is ‘MUSEUM’, a 68-page book, featuring 11 sonnets inspired by the house, with accompanying photography taken in and from the house. Both Paula’s words and Dragana’s photography beautifully capture the story of the building and the lives lived in it.

Our hand-bound bespoke notebooks are made in Dublin 1 at the Five Lamps by Duffy Bookbinders. This version cover design is an authentic recreation of the stylized floral motif wallpaper that was found the house and is displayed in the Dowling Family Flat.
The wallpapers were recreated and hand screen-printed by David Skinner, the renowned wallpaper maker, conservator and researcher. As part of the conservation project, Dublin City Council commissioned David Skinner to recreate the historic papers found in the house. These beautifully recreated papers can be found hanging on the walls of the house today. It is also this recreated wallpaper that has been used as the covering material for the Henrietta Street notebooks, creating a visually stunning and unique notebook.

Greeting Card - €3.50
This hand drawn illustration by acclaimed Dublin artist Francis Leavey of the front door to Number 14, tells a personal and heartfelt story connected to the very fabric of our historic building. It is his own special connection to 14 Henrietta Street that sparked this collaboration and creation of the card. While on a tour of 14 Henrietta Street with family members who were visiting from abroad, Leavey shared with members of our team that his grandparents lived in the building, and his father began his life here 87 years ago, as documented in his grandparent's wedding certificate.
