14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street.
In 2024, we appointed two Artists in Residence to develop a creative response to 14 Henrietta Street. In this Teatime Talk, Artist in Residence Orlagh Meegan-Gallagher will talk about her time in 14 Henrietta Street and the creation of a textile art piece inspired by the women who lived in the house over its 300 year history. This journey brings us from the Georgian beginnings of 14 Henrietta Street, to its eventual tenement subdivision.
Orlagh Meegan-Gallagher’s Artwork remembers the lives of the women who lived in Georgian Dublin, in Dublin's tenement buildings and particularly in 14 Henrietta Street.

Orlagh Meegan-Gallagher said of the piece " I have spent months exploring the history of 14 Henrietta Street creating a 9-foot-long textile art piece based on what I learnt from talking to staff, tour guides and historians. Now I would love to show you the art piece and tell you a bit about all the stories that I’ve woven into the artwork."
The Artwork connects all of the women through the building's history, from the silks of the Georgian inhabitants to the tough blankets of the tenement families. Different panels in the artwork feature historic fabrics, styles and patterns of embroidery and stitching, remembering the women who lived in Georgian Dublin, in the tenement buildings and particularly in 14 Henrietta Street. The artwork has also been stitched by visitors to the museum, tour guides and children from a local primary school.
