14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street.
Joseph Meade's life has been almost totally defined by the fact that he owned tenements in Henrietta Street, yet, in his day he was one of the most important and respected businessmen in Dublin.
Meade (1839-1900) was a master builder, one of the biggest ever employers in this city, a nationalist politician, an Alderman on Dublin Corporation and twice Lord Mayor of the city (in 1891 and 1892). He built numerous churches, palatial homes and artisan dwellings, civic and commercial buildings, transport infrastructure and places of entertainment.
In this talk, Senior Tour Guide Pat Garry reassess his career, his contribution to the welfare of Dubliners and his legacy, which practically every Dubliner has encountered at some stage in their lives.
