Teatime Talk: 1925: The Last of the Dublin Metropolitan Police

Teatime Talks

Published 16 October 2025

14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street. By listening and engaging with visitors, historians, experts, local people, former tenement residents and their families, we continue to uncover, record and respond to the 300 year story of 14 Henrietta Street.

1925 was a dramatic year in the history of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, with the raiding of the Monto district and the end of the force. Absorbed into the new state's police force, An Garda Síochána, the DMP remains an important part of the story of policing the capital. Join Superintendent Paul Maher B.L of the Garda Historical Society for this talk examining the police force that made its way into everything from James Joyce’s literature to the Easter Rising.

When: Thursday 20 November, 6 pm.
