14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street. By listening and engaging with visitors, historians, experts, local people, former tenement residents and their families, we continue to uncover, record and respond to the 300 year story of 14 Henrietta Street.
Joseph Meade's life has been almost totally defined by the fact that he owned tenements in Henrietta Street, yet, in his day he was one of the most important and respected businessmen in Dublin.
Meade (1839-1900) was a master builder, one of the biggest ever employers in this city, a nationalist politician, an Alderman on Dublin Corporation and twice Lord Mayor of the city (in 1891 and 1892). He built numerous churches, palatial homes and artisan dwellings, civic and commercial building, transport infrastructure and places of entertainment.
In this talk, Senior Tour Guide Pat Garry will reassess his career, his contribution to the welfare of Dubliners and his legacy, which practically every Dubliner has encountered at some stage in their lives.
This talk will take place in person on the 1st floor of the Museum and can be accessed via lift. If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact us on +353 1 524 0383 or email us at info@14henriettastreet.ie.
