Teatime Talk: Dublin Women in Business: North City Centre

Teatime Talks

Published 09 July 2026

14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street. By listening and engaging with visitors, historians, experts, local people, former tenement residents and their families, we continue to uncover, record and respond to the 300 year story of 14 Henrietta Street.

Was your great-granny a pawnbroker, a dressmaker, a boarding-house keeper? If so, she wasn’t alone. All through the nineteenth century and into the twentieth, women ran businesses in the north Dublin streets we walk today. Historian in Residence Dr Antonia Hart will share some of their ups and downs and explore this important aspect of our overlooked heritage of female entrepreneurship.

When: Thursday 27th August at 7 pm
Duration: 1 hour
