Teatime Talk: Riots and Flames: The Plough and the Stars at the Abbey Theatre

Teatime Talks

Published 08 July 2026

14 Henrietta Street presents Teatime Talks a series of talks inspired by the history and people of 14 Henrietta Street. By listening and engaging with visitors, historians, experts, local people, former tenement residents and their families, we continue to uncover, record and respond to the 300 year story of 14 Henrietta Street.

The Plough and the Stars is one of the most celebrated (and most controversial) plays ever staged in the Abbey Theatre, which has at times had as turbulent a history as the play itself. This talk by Historian in Residence Caitlin White marks the 75th anniversary of the fire that damaged the original building and explores Sean O’Casey’s Dublin masterpiece, set in a Dublin tenement, and its legacy in the Abbey.

When: Thursday 30 July 7 pm
