School Resources at 14 Henrietta Street
NewsStoriesPublished 17 February 2025

We welcomed over 150 school groups to 14 Henrietta Street last year. The house has a 300 year history that reflects many of the changes in Dublin’s history during that time. This makes it a great resource for teachers, as it can be linked to many strands of the history curriculum for both primary and post primary schools.
As well as our specially-tailored school tours, we also offer free online resources for teachers. These are designed to be used in the classroom either before or after a class visit to the house. Through an exploration of photos, video clips, oral history excerpts, and other historical sources, teachers can use these resources to prepare for a visit or to build on what a class has learned on a tour. The resources reflect the long history of the house from Georgian to tenement times, with an emphasis on the stories shared by former tenement residents.
They include a variety of types of tasks and activities, which teachers can pick and choose, depending on the level of the class and the type of project. In this way they are designed to be flexible and adaptable to suit teachers and classes. Some of the activities for primary school groups include learning to play tenement games like Piggy Beds and creating your own timelines. Tasks in the Leaving Certificate resources include analysing different historical sources and undertaking self-led research. The resources were created through a collaborative process that involved the museum’s guides, as well as feedback from students and teachers.
Our school resources are divided into primary school, junior cycle, transition year, and leaving cert. They are available in English and as Gaeilge. They can be viewed online, printed as pdf documents, or collected as printed packs during a visit to 14 Henrietta Street. You can access our resources here [link] If you’d like to request a printed resource pack or to share feedback on using the resources, contact us at info@14henriettastreet.ie or by calling 01-5240383.
