TASK 1: DUBLIN OVER TIME

(For 1st - 2nd class; and a starting point for 3rd - 6th class)

  • Take a look at the following pictures from Dublin at different times. Two are from Henrietta Street, the first is in the city centre:

  • Put them in order from oldest to newest:
    Why have you put them in that order?
    What clues in the pictures helped you decide?
  • Play spot the difference with each picture:
    What looks different?
    What is the same?
    Look at the people in the photos - how are they different?

TASK 2: CREATING A TIMELINE

  • Draw a line on a piece of paper. At one end write '1700s', at the other write 'Today'.
  • Where on the timeline would you put each of the three pictures in Task 1?
  • Add other important dates on your timeline, of events that happened in Ireland and the world.
  • Add dates in your life, including the year you were born.

TASK 3: HENRIETTA STREET IN THE FUTURE

  • Draw or paint a fourth picture of what you think the street might look like in the future.
  • Imagine what year your picture could be from - make your timeline longer and add this new date.
